Mental Health in Schools - Tackling the Issues
On Tuesday October 23rd 2018 from 7.00 p.m. - 9.00 p.m.
at Saltwells E.D.C.
Guest speaker is Sandra Vaughan, General Manager, Dudley MIND
We are doubtless all aware that many children, even in primary school, are increasingly suffering from poor levels of mental health, the result of numerous causes (cyber-bullying, examination stress, home circumstances, to identify some of the best-known) which lead to them being unhappy (and often desperately ill and, sometimes, worse) and failing to achieve to their potential. In the early part of 2017 the Prime Minister announced that funding would be made available to address these issues and not only did DAGB lobby MPs at the time to seek action on this but at the 2018 Summer NGA Conference, DAGB asked Damian Hinds, the current Secretary of State for Education, about this same issue in front of several hundreds of delegates and his response is a matter of record. Staff may also be vulnerable to mental health problems and we have a duty of care for them also.
Sandra Vaughan has provided relevant training for children in Birmingham schools and elsewhere as a means of minimising the problem so is in an excellent position to advise us on what can be done for the children in our local schools
Please join us on October 23rd and see what can be achieved in your own schools even against a backdrop of a funding crisis.
COST: Free to members of DAGB schools/academies. A charge of £20 per person will be made in advance for delegates from non-DAGB members.
BOOKING Please email to DAGBbookings@aol.com stating MIND in the subject line and your name and school in the body of the email. Confirmatory emails will be sent in due course.
